I have passed a little side road countless times thinking I should check that out on my way back, but then I either end up taking a different route home or I’m too tired or too hungry to stop. Today, however, I made it my primary goal to check out that side road. Wow! I was not disappointed!
The little road stretches north off Butterfield Rd. for about two miles. In the middle of this run is a roundabout with two additional offshoots, one going east and one going west. The north-south spokes intersect with major roads heavy with traffic, but the two east-west spokes loop around back to the roundabout making a nice twisty little racetrack. 😀
While I was there, I took the opportunity to practice cornering techniques–leaning, counter-steering, breaking, and throttle control. The road was in pretty good condition overall, but there were some tar snakes on many of the curves which made me ride more cautiously than I wanted to. It was warm and the sun was shining, so I knew those would be slippery. The last thing I wanted to do was hit one of those on an aggressive turn and have one of my wheels (and then me) go sliding. But I still had fun and was able to take the turns at a pretty good clip.
Sadly, I didn’t get a picture of this particular road. There were a few cars cutting over from highway to highway, so I didn’t have a safe spot to park the bike and take a photo. However, I managed to grab a selfie at a cool-looking mirrored office building I found nearby. I’m sure there were plenty of people on the other side of that window wondering what in the world this dork on the bike is doing. Ha ha. 😀
